A method for managing operation data of an NMS is provided to automatically collect ring/channel map information of the network in real-time and offer an automatic root search environment to a manager when failure occurs in the network. If the NMS is activated, an information collector determines whether an equipment end of the NMS is connected or not(S202). If the equipment end of the NMS is connected, the ring/channel map information of the network is collected and the collected ring/channel map information is transmitted to an operation database(S206). Idle port/channel information of the network is collected(S210). The ring/channel map information and the idle port/channel information are stored to the operation database(S212). The ring/channel map information is classified and databased by each network head office, transmission room, maker, and capacity.
