A convergence device using a single optical sensor and a method therefor are provided to remove a noise when determining a convergence position although the noise exists in external environment. An optical sensor unit(402), located in an edge of a screen(422), detects an optical detection output in the first state that a beam is not irradiated and the second state that the beam is irradiated. A memory(412) stores a 50-percent value of the maximum output of the optical sensor unit(402). A light source(420), located on the screen(422), moves in a certain direction and irradiates a beam of uniform intensity. The microcomputer(410) compares the output of the optical sensor unit(402) in the first state with the output of the optical sensor unit(402) in the second state acquired while moving the light source(420). The microcomputer(410) stores a point, where the output of the optical sensor unit(402) in the second state exceeds the 50-percent value of the maximum output of the optical sensor unit(402) in comparison to the output of the optical sensor unit(402) in the first state, as a convergence position in the memory(412).
