A method and a system for transmitting image contents are provided to efficiently transmit the image contents to a client from a server in the client/server network without generating unnecessary load in the network. A client(100) includes an information input part(101) inputting resolution information of the desired image contents, a transceiver(103) transmitting an image content request message to the server(120) and receiving image content data from the server, a display part(104) displaying the image contents, and a controller(102). If the resolution of the received image contents is lower than the desired resolution, the controller adjusts the resolution of the received image content and displays the adjusted image content to the display part. The server includes the transceiver(121), a storing part(123) storing the image content data, and the controller(122). If the resolution of the stored image contents is higher than the desired resolution, the controller adjusts the resolution of the stored image content and displays the adjusted image content to the transceiver.
