An apparatus and a method for inputting a phone number in a mobile terminal are provided to remarkably shorten the path for executing the input of a phone number by enabling phone number searching to be made on a phone number input screen. An apparatus for inputting a phone number in a mobile terminal comprises a memory(18), a display part(22), and a control part(12). The memory(18) stores names and corresponding phone numbers. The display part(22) displays a phone number input screen for the transmission of data. The control part(12), if an input event is generated on the phone number input screen, obtains corresponding phone numbers according to the inputted value, and displays the obtained phone numbers. In case one among the displayed phone numbers is selected, the control part(12) inputs the selected phone number in the phone number input screen.
