摘要 A navigation system with a path selecting function and a method thereof are provided to select an optimal path by applying road information, such as a road type, a road attribute, and a road width, and traffic information. A navigation system with a path selecting function using road information and traffic information includes a wireless communication unit(70), a GPS(Global Positioning System) module(60), a map database(30), a storage unit(20), and a controller(10). The wireless communication unit receives traffic information from a traffic information supply unit. The GPS module receives position data from GPS satellites, and outputs current position data. The map database stores map data including road width, road attribute, and road type information. The storage unit stores the traffic information and a look-up table. The controller analyzes the traffic information, searches target paths for a destination, calculates a path search cost based on the map data, calculates an interval search cost based on the path search cost, and selects a target path having a minimum search cost.
