PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent surface acoustic wave device capable of improving a shoulder characteristic by reducing insertion loss deterioration, and communication equipment using the surface acoustic wave device. SOLUTION: In the surface acoustic wave device, a surface acoustic wave element comprising a plurality of IDT electrodes 2 to 4 composed of a pair of parallel common electrodes and a plurality of electrode fingers extending from the respective common electrodes so as to mesh with each other and reflector electrodes 5 and 6 provided with a plurality of long electrode fingers in a direction orthogonal to the propagation direction of a surface acoustic wave is formed on a piezoelectric substrate 1, wherein lead out electrodes 7 and 8 formed along the common electrodes through an insulator 14 and connected to the IDT electrodes 2 to 4 are provided on the common electrodes of the IDT electrodes 2 to 4.
