PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of performing a gray adjustment that is simpler and more accurate in a color printer. SOLUTION: A user records an image for ascertaining the state of gray, subjects the image to colorimetrics processing, and acquires image data. Then, a point at which a gray adjustment is required is designated, a colormetrics adjustment target value for the designated point is calculated from data representing gray near to the shade of gray at the designated point resting on the basis of the obtained image data. Furthermore, image data representing gray modifying patches used for gray adjustments made for the designated point are formed on the basis of data representing the gray at the designated point, and the modifying patches are recorded. The gray patches are recorded and subjected to colorimetrics processing. Lastly, a patch close to the modifying target value is selected from the peripheral patches to adjust gray.
