PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric water heater which has the side face of a container and the whole top surface of a lid body covered with a heat insulating material securely and needs a very small amount of power consumed for keeping warm. SOLUTION: The electric water heater is provided with a hot water storage container 12 in an appliance body 11, a heating device 14 which heats and keeps water warm, a lid body 15 which covers an opening of the container, a steam passage 16 which communicates with a space in the upper part of the container at an end and opens out of the appliance body at the other end, a delivery pathway 18 which leads the liquid in the container out of the appliance body, a hot water delivery device 20 which delivers the liquid in the container out and a control device 24, the appliance body 11 has at least a side of a hot water spout 19 which communicates with the delivery pathway separated from the container side, side face of the container side and whole top surface of the lid body are covered with the heat insulating material 27 and at least the delivery pathway 18 passes below the bottom end 28 of the heat insulation material and communicates with the hot water spout 19. Then, the side face of the container 12 and the whole top surface of the lid body 15 are securely covered with the heat insulating material 27, and the power consumption for keeping warm is extremely reduced.
