1,242,467. Capacitors. SIEMENS A.G. 24 June, 1969 [25 June, 1968], No. 31702/69. Heading H1M. In a capacitor made by dividing up a parent capacitor comprising strips of metallized dielectric material wound on to a drum, the dielectric foils are of shrinkable synthetic resin and the conductivity of the metal coatings is less than 1À5 mho. During division, e.g. by sawing, local heating causes shrinking at the foil edges and the metal coating at the edges is split up into small islands. If the metal is one which undergoes surface oxidation, the islands are insulated from each other. Damage due to flash over is minimized. The dielectric material may be polycarbonate, polyethylene terephthalate or polypropylene. |
