Collagen foils, partic. for dialysis use, are strengthened and rendered easier to handle, with non-woven felt, pref. binder-free felt, esp. viscose or nylon spun fibres. In an example, oxhide sections are cut up, swelled in HCl at pH 3, minced, pressed through 0.1mm slot to give collagen paste with 12% solids, diluted with dilute HCl of pH 3 to 0.7% solids, homogenised, extruded through 1.5 mm x 350 mm slot and applied to 35 cm wide length-oriented 13g/sq. m. viscose felt (or 12g/sq. m nylon spun fibre felt) placed on PVC conveyor belt, and air-dried at 60 degrees C. |
