In a limited-slip differential of which the housing 12 has a circumferential series of arcuate recesses for the reception of two sets of axially overlapping spur planets 26, 36 meshing with side sun pinions 23, 33 (as described in Specification 1,099,717), a central split spring ring 28 bears against the inner peripheries of the planet teeth to provide frictional contact between the spring and teeth, and also to force the planets radially outwards into frictional engagement with the housing recesses. The spring may be of undulating form, Fig. 4 (not shown), to increase the frictional contact area of the inner portions of the planet teeth. The ring may encircle the planets to force them into contact with inner housing recesses.</p> |
