<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface suitable for promoting the formation of liquid droplets of size controlled to collect the droplets of liquid from fog or haze. <P>SOLUTION: The surface 30 suitable for promoting the formation of liquid droplets 35 is provided comprising alternating regions of a liquid repelling material 32 and a liquid attracting material 33 in at least one direction across the surface wherein the diameter of the droplets is controlled by the size of the smallest dimension of the liquid attracting material. The surface 30 may be textured and/or form a pattern. A method and a system for collecting a liquid 35 carried by or condensed out of a vapor including a step of supplying vapor to the whole surface 30, and a method for purifying a liquid by supplying vapor containing liquid droplets, to the surface, are also presented. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
