<p>The xylose soln. practically free from any impurities hindering crystallisation is obtained by the hot hydrolysis of the ground shells of fruit, eg. coconut shells, with a dil inorganic acid. At least 1pt. of the shells, e.g. powdered coconut shell, not pretreated chemically is reacted at the boil with 2.5-4 pt. pref. 2.5-3pt. aqs. HCl, HBr and/or H2SO4.</p> |
