<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device of a circularly polarized light mode whose visual angle characteristics are improved. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal device 100, a first retardation film 16 and a first polarizer 14 are provided on a TFT array substrate 10 side of a liquid crystal layer 50 of a vertically aligned mode, a second retardation film 26 and a second polarizer 24 are provided on a counter substrate 20 side of the liquid crystal layer 50, the first and the second retardation films 16 and 26 are disposed so that slow phase axes thereof are orthogonal to each other and the sum (Nz1+Nz2) of an Nz value (Nz1) of the first retardation film 16 and an Nz value (Nz2) of the second retardation film 26 represented by formula (1): Nz=(nx-nz)/¾nx-ny¾ (in formula (1), nx, ny and nz are three-dimensional refractive indexes of the retardation films and nx is a refractive index in a slow phase axis direction, ny is a refractive index in a direction parallel to the plate surface and orthogonal to the slow phase axis and nz is a refractive index in a film thickness direction) is a value less than 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
