Production of thermoplastic article (18) with a colored decorative layer uses an injection molding machine (10). A lacquer coating (22) is applied to a female mold (20) and the article is molded, leaving a gap between it and the lacquer layer. A colored decorative material (26) is then injected into the gap. An independent claim is included for use of the method to produce plastic sheet for use in the car industry.
