PROCESS FOR PRODUCING CARBON NANOTUBE AND CATALYST FOR CARBON NANOTUBE PRODUCTION

A process for carbon nanotube production in which a catalyst for carbon nanotube production which is a powdery catalyst comprising magnesia and a metal deposited thereon and having a bulk density of 0.30-0.70 g/mL and which has been packed in a vertical reactor so as to occupy the whole of a horizontal-direction section of the reactor is brought into contact at 500-1,200°C with a carbon-containing compound flowing in the vertical direction through the reactor. By the process, carbon nanotubes which are even and have high quality are efficiently synthesized in a large amount.
