A transflective LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and an manufacturing method thereof are provided to simplify a manufacturing process and improve reflection efficiency by forming a diffusion pattern at a reflective part without forming an uneven passivation layer or a reflective plate which requires a complicated mask process. One pixel area is defined in first and second substrates, and a reflective area(RA) and a transmissive area(TA) are defined in the pixel area. A gate line and a data line intersect each other on the first substrate and define the pixel area. A thin film transistor(Tr) is formed in the pixel area and is connected to the gate line and the data line. A passivation layer is formed to cover the thin film transistor. A reflective plate(146) is formed in the reflective area on the passivation layer. A pixel electrode(152) is formed on the passivation layer and is connected to one electrode of the thin film transistor. A color filter layer(178) is formed on an inner surface of the second substrate facing the first substrate, and has a first thickness at a portion corresponding to the reflective area and a second thickness at a portion corresponding to the transmissive area. The second thickness is twice greater than the first thickness and corresponds to the transmissive area. A diffusion pattern(182) is formed under the color filter layer and has a third thickness at a portion corresponding to the reflective area. The third thickness is three times greater than the first thickness. A liquid crystal layer(190) is interposed between the first and second substrates.
