A method for protecting data of a mobile terminal is provided to enhance user convenience by allowing a user to set a partial protection function of his/her mobile terminal and use the mobile terminal without having to input a password each time. When a user approaches a mobile terminal and if a user has set a privacy protection function overall with respect to the mobile terminal, he/she inputs a password to release a locked function(S91-S93). When the user has set a privacy protection function with respect to particular data, the user inputs a password for releasing the set protection function to approach and use the corresponding data(S94,S95). If the user has not set the entire lock function or the privacy protection function with respect to particular data, every data can be approached(S96).
