A photographing apparatus and a photographing method are provided to automatically determine the number of photographed images and an exposure time per a photographed image according to surrounding circumstances. A photographing apparatus includes a metering result acquisition unit, a focal length acquisition unit, a photographing condition determination unit, and a photographing unit. The metering result acquisition unit acquires a result of metering of an object. The focal length acquisition unit acquires focal length information of a lens. The photographing condition determination unit determines the number of photographed images obtained by one-time photographing operation and an exposure time per a photographed image on the basis of the metering result and the focal length information. The photographing unit takes a plurality of pictures of the object through one-time photographing operation.
