PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the impact of poor printing due to the drying of ink in a nozzle while shortening the print time without performing flushing operation for preventing deterioration in print performance frequently. SOLUTION: When a decision is made at step 3 that a carriage 9 has ended printing of single scan in the width direction for a recording medium P during print operation, only a non-discharge drive pulse for not discharging ink is applied to the actuator 31 of a recording head 30 at step 4, and the carriage 9 is controlled to perform single scan in the width direction for the recording medium P while performing only an operation for making meniscus of ink vibrate in the vicinity of a nozzle 15. During print operation, such a control as discharging ink in the going stroke of the carriage 9 and simply vibrating the meniscus of ink in the returning stroke is repeated.
