<p>1,182,611. Mounting and supporting ships propellers and shafts. GLACIER METAL CO. Ltd. 22 Feb., 1967 [22 Feb., 1966], No.7827/66. Headings B7S and B7V. A stern gear for ships comprises a stern trunk 10, a stern bearing 13 within which the propeller shaft 14 rotates and which is mounted within and spaced from the trunk, the stern bearing being secured (at 16) by means accessible from its axially inboard end only and removable inwardly enabling inspection, dismantling or replacement of the bearing and access to the interior of the trunk. an outboard rotary seal 17 between the propeller shaft and the trunk, and support means 24, 26 for the propeller shaft outboard of the stern bearing to support the shaft from the trunk when the stern bearing is removed. By removing a spacer disc 28 the shaft 14 may be drawn forward so that a bush 24 secured to the shaft flange 22 engages at 26 a ring 11 on the frame tube 10 thereby providing support for the shaft so that the bearing 13 can be disconnected at 16 and removed. Instead of the conical surface arrangements shown in Fig. 1 an hydraulic jacking arrangement may be provided between the ring 11 and the bush 24 (Fig. 2, not shown). A buoyancy chamber 35 is mounted on the aft end of the propeller boss 23. '</p> |
