PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink feeding mechanism which can supply ink smoothly through a simple structure without adding a complicated pressurization unit, and to provide a recorder equipped with the ink feeding mechanism. SOLUTION: The ink feeding mechanism comprises a reciprocal carriage 23, an ink cartridge 17 storing ink being supplied to an ink jet recording head 21 provided in the carriage 23, and a section 35 for holding ink consumed in printing by the ink jet recording head 21. The ink feeding mechanism is further provided with an ink pump section 34 which is compressed through movement of the carriage 23 to a predetermined position thus feeding ink to the ink holding section 35, and restored through movement of the carriage 23 to a position deviating from the predetermined position thus sucking ink from the ink cartridge 17.
