PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid discharge method which makes it possible to control a wide range of a discharged liquid droplet amount with good controllability from very small discharge to a large-quantity discharge using a single liquid discharge head or which makes constantly clean, durable, and stable discharge possible because the discharge port is not cylindrical and disassembly and cleaning is made easy. SOLUTION: After a liquid is brought into contact with a tip end of a droplet holding part having two or more close droplet holding faces to hold a droplet between the holding faces on the basis of capillary phenomenon, the holding part is moved forward in the droplet discharge direction and abruptly stopped or moved backward to provide inertia to the droplet and discharge the droplet.
