UNIT AND METHOD FOR PROCESSING IMAGE, PROGRAM, AND STORAGE MEDIUM STORING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit capable of correcting the background of a brilliant section when placing the double-spread pages of the glossy paper of a book original; and to provide a method of processing the image, a program, and a storage medium in which the program is stored.

SOLUTION: The image processing unit comprises an image read means 1 for reading the book original 40 placed on contact glass 2; a background correction means for obtaining a pixel value at the flat section of the book original 40 from the pixel value of a scan image in the book original 40 read by the image read means 1, and correcting the background near a binder 41 in the scan image based on the pixel value at the flat section; and a brilliance correction means for correcting the brilliance in the scan image occurred by the bend of the book original 40.
