PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front basal plate for a plasma display restraining halation, having near-infrared absorption capability, and being excellent in light transmission performance for 380-770 nm visible wavelength range, especially for 380-480 nm. SOLUTION: This front basal plate for a plasma display has a base glass composition comprising essentially 60-70 SiO<SB>2</SB>, 0.5-5 Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 2-6 Na<SB>2</SB>O, 8-16 K<SB>2</SB>O, 10-20 Na<SB>2</SB>O+K<SB>2</SB>O, 8-15 MgO, 0-6 CaO, 0-5 SrO, 0-5 BaO, 10-20 MgO+CaO+SrO+BaO, and 0.5-5 ZrO<SB>2</SB>, in wt.%, and contains as a coloring component 0.25-0.80 iron oxide in wt.%, and the weight ratio of the divalent iron oxide to the total iron oxide (the weight of the divalent iron oxide/the weight of the total iron oxide) is 0.25-0.55.
