A solid image pickup device is provided to prevent image quantity from being degraded by a pseudo signal without increasing a pattern occupation size or power consumption. Pixels are 2-dimensionally disposed on a semiconductor substrate in an image pickup region. A photoelectric circuit converts an optical signal into a signal charge and accumulates the converted signal charge. A readout circuit reads out the load accumulated in the photoelectric circuit by using a detecting unit. An amplifying circuit amplifies and outputs a voltage corresponding to a charge quantity of the detecting unit. A reset circuit resets the load of the detecting unit. Vertical signal lines connect to respective pixel columns in the image pickup region, respectively. A variable load circuit connects to the vertical signal lines and increases a current which flows in the vertical signal lines when a plurality of pixel rows is simultaneously selected. An accumulating circuit maintains the read-out respective voltages from the respective amplifying circuit to the vertical signal lines among the selected pixel rows.
