PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner capable of protecting a compressor by accurately determining existence or nonexistence of cycle blocking and a coolant amount remaining in a refrigerating cycle. SOLUTION: The air conditioner is provided with the refrigerating cycle formed by connecting the compressor 6, an outdoor side heat exchanger 8, an expansion valve 10, and an indoor side heat exchanger 4 in this order, an outdoor blower 9 sending outside air to the outdoor side heat exchanger 8, and an indoor blower 5 sending air to the indoor side heat exchanger 4. When a temperature variation of each part of the refrigerating cycle generated by stopping the indoor blower 5 and the outdoor blower 9, operating the compressor 6 at a certain frequency in a fixed state of the expansion valve 10 at a small throttling opening, and increasing the throttling opening of the expansion valve 10 after passage of a predetermined time, is a predetermined value or less, it is determined that there is a malfunction in the refrigerating cycle. The existence or nonexistence of cycle blocking and the coolant amount remaining in the refrigerating cycle are accurately determined without relying on an ambient environment or condition, and the compressor 6 can be positively protected.
