During a driving operation, a total air mass flow sucked in or an increase in this amount is measured and evaluated under defined driving conditions. Relying on this evaluation produces a conclusion about a perfect function or trouble on a secondary air-supply device (1). Diagnostics for this device are carried out in a thrusting operation.
