Connection multiplexers undergo a restart, also known as a new start, caused by an event that is identified by the security technology. During a restart of this type, subscriber connection data can be lost. The aim of the invention is to save the subscriber connection data of subscribers that are connected to a connection multiplexer in a restart-proof manner. To achieve this, the invention provides a method that permits the data to be saved and reconstructed in a simple manner. This is achieved by a restart-proof memory (DHCP-RRM) that contains the subscriber connection data records and additionally by the storage of an index (vcxindex) for each subscriber connection data record, said index identifying the relevant subscriber.
