The organo-chlorosilanes are reacted with 98-150% of the water required for chlorine substitution, opt. mixed with alcohol, in presence of esters at 20-90 degrees (40 degrees - 70 degrees) C. The major amount of HCl is evolved as gas and the remainder on distilling off the ester, together with additional organic solvents which may be present, from the polysiloxane formed. The ester-solvent mixt. is immediately re-usable. The prefd. esters are from 1-5C carboxylic acids and 1-5C alcohols. The hydrogen chloride is recovered in a reusable form. Increased yields of polysiloxane of light colour and acid-free are obtained.
|
