A backlight unit, an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display), and a method for assembling the backlight unit are provided to simply and surely join optical sheets to a chassis in an appropriate order and direction and flexibly cope with the change in structures of the optical sheets, thereby improving the working efficiency. A backlight unit comprises a light source, plural optical sheets, and a chassis to which the plural optical sheets are joined. In the optical sheets, a first optical sheet(8) has first identification portions(10a,10b,10c) of the same number as the other optical sheets at predetermined positions around the periphery thereof. In the optical sheets except the first optical sheet, one or more optical sheets(9a,9b,9c) are placed next to the first optical sheet when the second optical sheets are joined to the chassis. The optical sheets respectively have second identification portions(11a,11b,11c) corresponding to the first identification portions. The second identification portions are visibly recognized when viewed from an assembling direction of the optical sheets.
