PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for warning a degree of potential risk by which precision of a degree of risk of a collision with the other vehicle running on the adjacent lane is more exactly estimated to prompt a driver to collision prevention driving. SOLUTION: The device has: a road shape detection means (a locator 1 and a map data base 2) for detecting the road shape in front of the other vehicle running in parallel with a lane adjacent to an own lane where one's own vehicle runs; a potential risk degree estimation means 5e for estimating the level of possibility that the own vehicle approaches the other vehicle as the degree of potential risk based on the road shape in front of the other vehicle and a warning means 6 for issuing a warning according to the degree of potential risk.
