PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical path converting element which is compact and has a simple structure. SOLUTION: The optical path converting element, which is interposed between first and second two optical components of a fitting pin positioning type having optical paths different from each other and performs optical connection between both optical components, comprises a block-shaped element main body 16. The element main body 16 is provided with: a first connection part 11 which has fitting pin holes 11a in the direction corresponding to fitting pin holes of the first optical component and has a connection edge surface 11b abutted and connected to a connection edge surface of a first optical component; a second connection part 12 which has fitting pin holes 12a in the direction corresponding to fitting pin holes of the second optical component and has a connection edge surface 12b abutted and connected to a connection edge surface of a second optical component; and an optical fiber (optical waveguide) 14 directed to the connection edge surface 12b of the second connection part 12 from the connection edge surface 11b of the first connection part 11 through a bent part 14b.
