<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that adjustment for adjusting the relational position of a tip detection position and the nozzles of a recording head is complicated when a plurality of paper sensors for detecting the leading edge of paper are installed. <P>SOLUTION: A carriage 23 is provided with a first paper sensor 91 to sense the leading edges of papers 42 to be transferred, and a second paper sensor 92 to sense the leading edges of the papers 42 is installed in the upstream side of the paper transfer direction from the first paper sensor 91.
