PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an X-ray CT apparatus which can be adapted to the change of heartbeats during scanning, and also to provide a method for controlling the same. SOLUTION: The X-ray CT apparatus comprises a data collection device for collecting projection data of a subject by helical scanning synchronizing with heartbeats, an image reconstruction device for reconstructing an image on the basis of the collected projection data, and a control device for controlling the data collection device and the image reconstruction device. The control device has a first control means for changing helical pitch in accordance with the change of heartbeats during helical scanning (509, 511, 515) and a second control means for reconstructing images at a plurality of slice positions at equal intervals (517) on the basis of the projection data including projection data collected while changing the helical pitch.
