<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of failures such as the occurrence of damage (scratch) on the surface of an image carrier, even if carriers adhere to a carrier. <P>SOLUTION: Carriers T adhering to a photoreceptor drum 12 enter between the nonwoven fabric 208 of a residual toner electrifier 200 and the photoreceptor drum 12. The carriers T are attracted by a permanent magnet 900, so that the carriers T are continued to be held in such a state that the carriers T enter the nonwoven fabric 208. Since the carriers T do not pass through the residual toner electrifier 200, the carriers T enter between a contact electrifier on the downstream side and the photoreceptor drum 12, not to cause electrification failures such as electrification unevenness and not to damage the photoreceptor drum 12 either.
