PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To learn the minimum lift position while avoiding variation of brake operation force. SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine provided with a variable valve train making lift of an intake valve variable and using intake negative pressure as servo source of a vacuum servo brake, it is judged whether negative pressure for vacuum servo brake is secured or not when the minimum lift by the variable valve gear is learned, based on whether a condition where a brake switch is turned off right before start of learning and intake air quantity of the internal combustion engine is predetermined quantity or less continues for a predetermined period of time.
