PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrict the functions of a processing apparatus in accordance with users' authorities through authentication dispensing with unusual belongings and biometric authentication techniques, and facilitate the installation of an inexpensively and simply configured authentication system in the processing apparatus. SOLUTION: A processing system 1 comprises a plurality of cellular telephones 2 and a facsimile 3 remote-controllable from the cellular telephones 2. The facsimile 3 stores in advance telephone numbers of cellular telephones 2 having remote control authorization in association with authorities for the facsimile 3. The cellular telephone 2 sends the telephone number to the facsimile 3 (S8), and the facsimile 3, if authenticating it, returns a list of functions usable with the authority associated with the telephone number. The cellular telephone 2 thereby affirms authentication (S9: YES), and the cellular telephone 2 permits the user's remote control within the range of the function list returned from the facsimile 3 (S12).
