PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a repeat operation of gain switching in a receiver of digital gain control. SOLUTION: The receiver comprises: a variable gain circuit 3 for amplifying a reception signal by a gain made to be discretely varied based on a digital control signal; frequency converting circuit 4 for converting a frequency of the amplified reception signal to an intermediate frequency; a reception signal strength circuit 6 for measuring signal strength of an intermediate frequency signal; and a control circuit 8 for outputting a gain responding to the signal strength to the variable gain circuit 3 after calculating as the digital control signal based on comparison result between a reference signal and the signal strength measured by the reception signal strength circuit 6. An adding circuit 9 for calculating a signal strength adding signal to be added to the signal strength measured by the reception signal strength circuit 6 based on the digital control signal is further provided therein. The control circuit 8 is designed to calculate a gain as the digital control signal in response to comparison result between a first added signal which is added the signal strength with the signal strength adding signal and a reference signal.
