PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide nanotubes comprising a hexagonal single crystal capable of being utilized for optical elements, electronics, optoelectronics, photocatalysts or the like; and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: Cadmium sulfide nanotubes comprising a hexagonal single crystal are formed by charging a mixture of cadmium sulfide powder, tin monoxide powder, tin dioxide powder and activated carbon powder into a graphite crucible and heating the mixture at 1,100-1,200°C for 3-5 h in a stream of an inert gas such as nitrogen gas. It is possible to fill a portion of inside the nanotube with tin. Further, it is possible to form cadmium selenide nanotubes comprising a hexagonal single crystal by using cadmium selenide powder in place of the cadmium sulfide powder. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
