The device comprises: a body 2, a container 24 and a plunger 40 which is movable with respect to the body. The plunger is arranged to move the container with respect to the body and to expel at least a portion of a substance from the container. Priming means 70, 72, 80 may move the container towards the plunger and on completion of the priming operation become disengaged from the container. The device also comprises means for adjusting the amount of substance to be expelled from the container.
