METADATA PRODUCTION SYSTEM FOR PROTECTION OF CONTENTS AND ITS METHOD

A system and a method for making metadata for protecting contents are provided to make the metadata for protecting the contents by using MPEG-21 REL(Rights Expression Language) including content use rights and distribution information, and MPEG-21 IPMP(Intellectual Property Management and Protection) for protecting/managing the contents. A network interface(130) receives an MPEG-21 REL document from a license server(300). A metadata generator(110) generates protection/management metadata by combining the MPEG-21 REL document and the MPEG-21 IPMP generated from the MPEG-21 REL document. An integrated controlling/managing part(120) parses the MPEG-21 REL document to obtain media content information, receives a file path of a parsed digital item, and obtains the first/second password setting information by using the MPEG-21 REL document and the protection/management metadata. A digital item encryptor(140) inserts a watermark into the contents and encrypts the protection/management metadata by receiving the watermark and the first/second password setting information from the integrated controlling/managing part.
