PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance contrast and luminance by improving positional controllability of spacers in a transflective type liquid crystal display device.

SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes: an active matrix substrate 20; a counter substrate 30a which is disposed opposite to the active matrix substrate 20 and on which a color filter layer 4 including colored layers 4a having colors is provided; a plurality of spherical spacers 5 which are provided between both substrates 20 and 30a and regulate cell thickness; a plurality of pixels which each have reflection regions R performing reflection display and transmission regions T performing transmission display and are disposed in a matrix shape; and clear layers 9 which are provided to be superposed on the colored layers 4a of the counter substrate 30a in the respective reflection regions R and allow the cell thickness in the reflection regions R to be smaller than cell thickness in the transmission regions T, wherein the clear layer 9 exposes a part of the colored layer 4a and has a spacer arrangement part H for arranging the spacer 5.
