PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a content reproducing apparatus and a reproduction speed control method thereof, capable of providing a GUI environment that is easily understood by the operator and exhibiting superior operability, by decreasing the number of function buttons for reproduction speed selection. SOLUTION: A flowchart shown in Fig. 2 includes a step S1 of displaying a preview screen; a step S2 of waiting the operation entry of a slider bar, after the entry of a reproduction operation; a step S4 of deciding whether the resolution of contents is a high resolution or a low resolution, when the operation entry is entered; steps S5, S6 of outputting a parameter, in response to the operated position of the slider bar by referencing a stepwise reproduction speed parameter, in the case of the high resolution or referencing a consecutive reproduction speed parameter when it is low resolution; a step S7 of deciding whether a designated speed is present, when the reproduction speed parameter is selected; a step S8 of executing reproduction control at the designated reproduction speed if there is designated speed; a step S9 of executing the reproduction control at a speed close to the designated reproduction speed, if there is no designation speed; and a step S10 of deciding completion of reproduction when the reproduction control above has been executed, and these processes are repeated, until the reproduction is completed.
