<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avert, as a result, a segment in which the receptions of data packets with different versions are overlapped temporally, from being changed forward/backward between the different versions. <P>SOLUTION: The range of values of the version number is divided into ranges of "old" and "new", on the basis of the current value of the version number. The periodicity with which the range of values is run through is taken into account, and the range "old" or "new" may jump from the highest value in the range of values to the lowest value in the range of values.
