Waterproof sealing of deep cracks in concrete - by impregnating the cleaned crack with a silane compsn. and applying a pourable sealing compsn. contg. an organo-silane

Deep cracks in reinforced concrete are sealed by first cleaning the surface of the concrete round the crack and the walls of hte crack with a stream of water at high press. and > 100 degrees C, directed in a short stream perpendicular to the surface of the concrete and parallel to the faces of the crack. The surface of the concrete in the region of the crack and the faces of the crack are then impregnated by flooding the surface and the faces of the crack with an impregnating agent contg. a dissolved organosilicon cpd. (I). The crack is then sealed with a pourable mixt. of the (I) and a carrier (II) which forms long chain cpds. with the silane component on the impregnating agent. The process gives good sealing of deep cracks in reinforced concrete and prevents the ingress of moisture, which would corrode the reinforcement. The seal maintains its sealing properties during fluctuations in temp. better than prior art sealing compsns.
