A method for shielding an electromagnetic wave of a home appliance is provided to prevent an electromagnetic wave exposure of a user by warning the user of the electromagnetic wave exposure and turning off the home appliance after the predetermined time elapses. An electromagnetic wave shielding function is turned on according to a request of shielding an electromagnetic wave of a home appliance(S202). The state of approach of a user within an electromagnetic wave exposing range of the home appliance according to the valid electromagnetic wave shielding function is detected(S204). If the user approaches within the electromagnetic wave exposing range, an electromagnetic wave exposing alarm is generated(S208). The state of movement of the user out of the electromagnetic wave exposing range according to the alarm(S210) is detected. If the user does not move despite the alarm, the home appliance is turned off(S214).
