A veneer peeling machine has a peeling blade and a pressure beam which are fastened to a tool carriage. The tool carriage is continuously displaced on at least two horizontal guides arranged on machine columns. The cutting edge (3a) of the peeling blade can be moved in a displacing plane arranged relative to a horizontal diametral plane placed through the centre of rotation of a timber bole to be peeled. The displacing plane is arranged at a distance above and parallel to the diametral plane. The distance can be varied by lifting and lowering the peeling blade.
