In friction welding metal workpieces a single workpiece is urged against adjacent coplanar portions on a plurality of workpieces, relative rotation is effected between the single workpiece and the portions and after surfaces are rendered plastic a forging pressure is applied. A steel tube sheet 59 has a copper condenser tube 60 within it and a sealing ring 61 of copper or of metal of lower melting point is rotated and forced against the flared end of the tube and the tube sheet. The ring 61 is finally sealed against the tube and tube sheet. If a slight gap exists between the tube and tube sheet liquid or plastic metal flows into the gap. |
