An apparatus and a method for setting an image processing part according to a kind of a broadcasting signal are provided to selectively apply an image quality setting value for implementing optimal image quality in each resolution according to an original image state. A demultiplexing part(120) separates an image signal from a broadcasting signal inputted at an HD(High Definition) mode. An image signal processing part(130) applies a set image quality setting value to the separated image signal and processes the image signal. A frequency domain conversion part(251) converts the image signal outputted from the demultiplexing part into a signal of a frequency domain. An image state determination part(252) determines an original image state of the image signal under the HD mode according to an output of the frequency domain conversion part. A control part(250) outputs a control signal so that a image signal process suitable for the original image state is performed. An image quality setting part(170) differently sets an image quality setting value of the image signal processing part according to an image state.
